Our work

Mālama Hāniʻo

Three projects, one purpose: restoring the fishery of Hāniʻo and protecting the ʻike, moʻolelo, loina and hana noʻeau connected to it.

How we work

Science and ancestral knowledge, side by side

Every project at Hāniʻo is shaped by place-based knowledge. Our kūpuna, cultural practitioners and families who grew up on this coast work alongside marine scientists, agencies and partners like Kuleana Coral Restoration.

That partnership guides where and how we restore, what we monitor, and how we teach the next generation. The six kapu and kānāwai are the foundation for all of it.
